Happy Friday! This morning started with our morning funnies and The Daily Chronicle. It is Shirley Jones’s birthday today! We enjoyed this quote from her, “After I won the Oscar, my salary doubled, my friends tripled, my children became more popular at school, my butcher made a pass at me, and my maid hit me up for a raise.” We also enjoyed watching a video of Shirley Jones in Oklahoma! The residents sang along to most of the songs, including “Oh What a Beautiful Morning” and “Oklahoma.” We did our usual stretches and played the bean bag toss game. It was a good time!
Today was the March birthday party! There was great music with two singers and guitarists. The residents loved the cake After the party, they listened to James play many beautiful songs on the piano! It was a wonderful day!
Happy Thursday! The day began with The Daily Chronicle. There were so many things we all learned that occured this week! Next was exercise with the parachute. As the pictures show, it was a lot of fun! They didn’t want to stop and rest, they were having such a good time! We really did get a good workout! That was all the exercise we needed for today! This afternoon, we worked on an Easter craft with a couple children. The residents had a wonderful time and enjoyed their company! Lastly, we watched a few YouTube videos from The Sound of Music. The music is so wonderful, we couldn’t help but to sing along!
It was a great morning! Our friends from Primrose School came in for a visit! We helped them make a paper flower garden craft. There were even a couple residents that enjoyed making their own! The kids were so adorable! One resident was so impressed with their work! It was a good time had by all! After, we fit in some exercise with stretches. We also listened to baseball songs and sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” since baseball season is here! We watched a YouTube video of MLB funniest moments of 2016.
After some rest this afternoon, we went outside on this beautiful day and played horseshoes and the bean bag toss game! We had a couple of young helpers that joined in so it made it extra fun! It was so nice to finally get some sun! After a while, we were ready to rest again and have a snack. Before dinner, the residents played bingo with the two young visitors! It was a great day!

Happy Monday! This morning began with devotions with Chaplain Mari. The residents had a lovely time listening to her wonderful message and singing a couple of their favorite songs, “I Love to Tell the Story” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” She came with a surprise and gave them each a nice cross. After that, we exercised along to big band music! That always gets us going on a Monday! Before lunch, we watched a few funny YouTube videos.
This afternoon, we played a categories word game and a quiz all about March. What a nice job they did! We also enjoyed a tasty donut treat before our special visitors, Tolstoy and Diane, came in! Diane had Tolstoy do all his neat tricks! The residents loved watching him! Diane tried teaching him a new trick with the residents help, how to pray! He’s almost there! We’re excited to see him in a couple weeks to see how he has improved! At the end, we all started singing and Tolstoy joined in with us! It was a great time!
Happy Friday! Our day began with The Daily Chronicle and morning funnies. Bob Mackie’s birthday is today. It was neat to learn that he’s the one that designed the “curtain dress” that Carol Burnett wore in Went with the Wind! We all had a good laugh with all the funny jokes and stories! The balloon volleyball game gave us some good exercise and fun! The morning ended with YouTube videos that made everyone smile and laugh!
A couple residents went out to lunch at Pizza Ranch! We were so full and happy after eating! This afternoon, we did a You Be the Judge activity. The residents listened to different cases and we discussed it and they came up with a verdict. We couldn’t believe some of the cases! After that, they watched Koko The Gorilla Who Talks.

Hello and happy Tuesday! What a wonderful day! We began by working on our big turtle mosaic project and boy, are those turtles looking FANTASTIC! It is fun, messy work and the residents are enjoying the beautiful colors and watching all of their hard work and creativity turn into such beautiful pieces of art. For those of you new to our blog, the turtle mosaic project has been going on since November 2016. It is a collaborative project with Midwest Special Services. The turtles, when compleated, will be permanently displayed in our Willows garden for all to enjoy for many years to come! Enjoy the photos! After lunch we enjoyed some beautiful music and even some dancing thanks to our favorite keyboardist, Jim Roth. It’s always a party when Jim is here, the residents and staff just love him and his music! After our entertainment we enjoyed some refreshments: cookies and coffee! We also celebrated a very special birthday and got to sing Happy Birthday to a dear friend here at the Willows. Enjoy the photos!
It was a great Thursday! The day started with The Daily Chronicle. The first London performance of Handel’s Messiah happened today in 1743 with King George II in the audience. The custom of standing during the singing of the “Hallelujah” chorus began when the king stood up in appreciation of the great piece and the audience followed. The residents thought that was interesting. Everyone had a good time using the ribbons for exercise! It was fun dancing and moving to ’50s and ’60s music! Since it’s National Puppy Day, we just had to watch puppy videos! There were a lot of smiles and “aahhh’s” and “they’re so cute” comments! Those videos were so adorable!
After lunch and some rest, many residents played bingo. It was a good time had by all! After bingo, was Music Safari! They played a music jeopardy game. Each team had a choice of finish the lyrics or name the song or instrument. Most of the songs she started playing, they knew. It was like a group effort, everyone started singing or guessing the songs no matter what team they were on! It was fun to do something different and everybody enjoyed it!
Happy first day of Spring! It was a wonderful morning! Our Hosanna! Preschool friends came in to visit us! Several residents helped them work on a Spring craft. They turned out really nice and cute! Everyone had a great time with them! We all enjoyed the song they sang for us at the end! When we were back and settled, we all had a good laugh with some morning funnies! Next, we all enjoyed a fun beach ball game for our exercise. Our morning ended with a few YouTube videos of kids and The Carol Burnett Show! After lunch and resting, we baked snickerdoodle cookies. There was a nice group of residents that participated in baking. They all worked so well together so we were done in no time! It was a marvelous time! It smelled so good in here and they tasted so good too! It was a great first day of Spring! Enjoy the weather!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Our day began with a wee bit o’ Irish humor! Everyone enjoyed several funny and witty stories and lines. Here’s one short one- “Sign on an Irish gate: The farmer allows walkers across the field for free, but the bull charges.” Next, we did our morning stretches and exercised more with the ball. There was Irish music on in the background so there was also some dancing going on! One resident was getting ready to throw the ball but instead she kept it and broke out dancing! We all thought it was so funny and cute! Before lunch, we watched more YouTube videos of riverdancers. The dancers were amazing!
It was our St. Patrick’s Day social this afternoon! They had a great time together chatting and eating treats and drinking green raspberry lemonade! Later, James came in and played several songs on the piano for us! It was a day full of fun!
