It has been a wonderful weekend here in The Willows! Our morning was graced with Michelle, a beautiful pianist that filled the rooms with magical melodies. Next we read the weather report and "on this day", followed by Stretch and Flex. We all are so excited to see the snow almost gone and the sun shining- spring is finally springing! To ready get in the spring time mood we planted some pea and sunflower seeds and also some pansies and primrose- just for some color right after lunch. Oh, how everyone's' face lit up when they saw the flowers! Just in case you'd like to see them- they are in the green house in the family room, just in front of the window. We should see some sprouts in a few days! After a bit of a rest we gathered for a popcorn party and some classic movie clips. We rounded out the evening with a sing a long. Happy Sunday to all!
Happy Friday! We started the day with lots of fun trivia about events, people, and animals. Did you know...that art was once an Olympic event from 1912-1948 and that a 17-year-old girl struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in a 1931 exposition game against the New York Yankees?! After that we stretched and flexed for a little morning exercise.... One resident couldn't help but burst out and say "Holy Mackerel" during that! There was lots of laughter to start off our afternoon activities by watching a video on YouTube of a two year that his own cooking show and jokes and funny true stories. Then we learned some more fun trivia and what was on "special days" this week like, on the 24th, it was cartoony day, on the 27th, it was Quirky Country Song Titles Day (we listened to "I Bought the Shoes That Just Walked Out on Me") and today is Coca-Cola Day as the first batch of it was made in 1886. James came to play piano music for us. Everyone loved listening and singing along to songs like "My Bonnie." It was a wonderful time had by all! After that, we just kept the music going with a sing-along!
Happy Thursday! We started the day with jokes, riddles, a couple humorous poems, and News Bloopers. A couple of the headlines that everyone thought was funny was, "Lawyer Says Client Is Not That Guilty" and "Bugs Flying Around with Wings Are Flying Bugs." After that, we played a bit of What's Next finish the quotes and proverbs game. We ended the morning with exercises...stretches and ball toss. This afternoon, we did some random trivia questions and Read My List game. It was also a nice time reminiscing and talking about different things like our favorite ice cream toppings. After that, we all had a blast at Music Safari! The residents played instruments, waved scarves, danced with a hula hoop, among other fun things along to Elvis Presley music and songs like "The Twist" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." It was a fantastic day!
Happy Wednesday! Today began with chapel and the pastor opened up with "Standing on the Promises" and told the story of Noah and the ark to tie into how God just wants us to trust him. We attended the rosary and communion afterward and everyone gladly listened to the lords prayer and a story from Deuteronomy. After lunch, we did an easter egg wreath craft and hung them up on their doors. They look so pretty! The day ended by reading some daily chronicles like the first cherry trees being planted in Washington D.C. and it was manatee appreciation day! It was also funny country song title day such as "I bought shoes that just walked out on me". The day ended by watching a minute to win it, which everyone enjoyed! "Every second counts"
Happy Tuesday! The day began with some spring jokes such as "Why did the farmer bury all his money?" "to make his soil rich" "What do you call a girl with a frog on her head?" "Lily" and "Do you know about April 1st?" "Yes, I'm fooly aware of it". Then we read some cards you will never see at Hallmark such as "Happy Birthday! You look great for your age... Almost Lifelike!", "I knew the day would come when you would leave me for my best friend. So here's his leash, water bowl, and chew toys", and "If you didn't have any money, I'd still love you. And miss you very much. "After that, we stretched while listening to some relaxing music. We watched videos about funny animals and a travel video of going around the world in 200 days, which some danced along to. Also, we followed up by playing a word game with the whiteboard and we listed party words. The afternoon started with an irish hangman game, and focused on irish songs, terms, and phrases. After that, a delightful array of songs about rain and sunshine took place, such as "It's raining men", "Raindrops keep fallin on my head", "You are my sunshine", and "sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows". At 3:00, Jim Roth happily entertained everyone with his accordion music, including polkas and "take me out to the ball game", "that's amore". Pat and Joanne especially enjoyed the accordionist.
What a wonderful Sunday morning! We sang many hymns together including, "Trust and Obey," "Amazing Grace," and "I Love to Tell the Story" among others. Of course we had to end with our loud "Amen" we say together! After that we enjoyed short stories of humorous children's prayers. Those definitely all made us smile and laugh! Our morning stretches were next. One resident wasn't stretching at the time everyone else was, and she said comically, "I'm sleeping" as she really wasn't! Everyone thought that was funny! This afternoon, we played lots of word games of finish the sayings and expressions, proverbs, titles and poetry. We ended with a sing along and listened to songs from different musicals. It was a great day!
It was a fun Saturday morning here in The Willows. Our theme was all about travel this morning. We enjoyed interesting and funny signs that were around the world, like a sign in hotel lift in China that read, "Please bump your head carefully." We also had a good laugh to humorous travel stories and real-life comments that were left by tourists in U.S. forest service suggestion boxes. A couple comments were, "A McDonald's would be nice at the trailhead" and "It's very hard to walk uphill, so please put an escalator near each uphill road." Fun trivia about city sights, country connections, and a world of food was next. We ended the morning with a travel video to Hawaii. Today was bingo day! We had a good time playing several games before singing many old-time songs together! What a busy and fun day!
Happy Friday! It was a busy morning with stretches and then lots of fun random trivia about past events, people, and animals from The Chronicle. We all liked this springtime quotes as well- "Spring is nature's way of saying, 'Let's party!'" Also, since today is goof-off day, we just had to start the day by making our silliest faces! Before lunch, we enjoyed a couple YouTube videos of babies laughing at dogs and babies dancing! Those videos brighten our day! This afternoon was our March birthday party! We had a great time in each other's company by listening to a couple sing old-time/folk songs and eating that delicious cake! We all rested and listened and sang songs together after the party. It was a fantastic Friday!
Happy Thursday! We started our day off with music! A volunteer played Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, along with other older Rock n' Roll songs! After that was some spring and flower jokes and riddles. Exercises this morning were with the ribbons. We had a fun time moving and twirling them along to upbeat 50s music! What a good work out! Before lunch, we watched a travel video about Iceland. This afternoon, we watercolor painted and used colored pencils flower sheets! We're all so happy it's finally spring and love seeing that sunshine! Music Safari was next. It was a lot of fun today...residents played sticks and shakers instruments, waved scarves, and did the balloon toss game along with lots of songs.
Happy first day of Spring! It was a day of celebration. We began with Ecumenical worship services in the Hosanna Chapel. Our preschool friends from Hosanna opened the services with some sweet songs about Jesus' love and we all sang a beautiful new song together, "We Pray in the Morning". Tamera, from Hosannas' adult ministry gave a beautiful sermon about starting a new and seeing all of the wonderful new ways God shows His love for us. It was very suiting with today being the first day of Spring! After church service some residents gathered in the Fountains Chapel for a special Anointing of the Sick Mass with Father Chad. It was taco bake for lunch and immediately following we hosted the Primrose preschoolers for a visit. We had a blast, making a rainbow craft and singing songs together, "Skinamirinky Do" and "You are my Sunshine". After this we took a little break to restore our energy. After our break we came back together to tell some funny practical joke stories and some more singing. What a day!
