What a beautiful morning! The day started out with daily chronicles and fair trivia! We stretched and got our energy flowing! Then we traveled to Italy and visited Naples, Tuscany, Rome, and Sicily to see some of the culture and history. The waters were beautiful and as blue as can be! We learned about Mt. Etna being the tallest and most active volcano! We listened to Italian music to get us in the mood for pepperoni pizza for our lunch! Yum! This afternoon, we had the August Birthday party and Coleen came in to sing some songs with her guitar such as "Zip a Dee Doo Dah", These boots were made for walking" and "The Burning Ring of Fire". Some of us dressed up in costumes such as a cowgirl for Patsy Cline's song. We ha d a mermaid for "Beyond the Sea" and had a flower girl, honoring a song from Woodstock. After Colleen was done, we all enjoyed some cake. James the pianist came to the willows and played some sweet songs for us like "Over the Rainbow", "Jailhouse Rock", and "You are My Sunshine", which was the group favorite. We sang, hummed, and danced! It was an afternoon of music. Then we continued our music journey by watching some Mexican dancers perform in what seemed to be a play. It was a Fantastic Day!
What a wonderful day! We spent a lot of time outside! We enjoyed our finish the sayings and songs game, talked about the fair and enjoyed a story of a family that won many ribbons at the fair. Residents shared some things that they had entered in the fair including a quilt. Music Safari was outside today! It was a great time singing, playing instruments, listening to music (like the Beach Boys) while stretching and using the parachute!
Hello and happy Wednesday! Our day began with Ecumenical Worship Services in the Fountains Theater. Pastor George Gilmour was our guest pastor and what a wonderful message he had for us today! We also sang the hymns, "Holy, Holy, Holy" and "Fairest Lord Jesus". Next was Catholic rosary and communion in the Fountains chapel with Deacon Jim. Just before lunch we had an impromptu dance party as everyone made their way to dining room for lunch. It was a great time and its always great to see how a great song with a great beat can get everyone moving and grooving! After lunch we enjoyed some sunshine in our private garden and then some trivia fun inside as it got a bit too windy. Musical moments today featured a fantastic classical concert in Vienna. It was a great day!
Happy Tuesday! Our day began with a fabulous round of "finish that line" and the happy news with the weather report. With The MN State Fair in full swing a few staff members joined in on the reminisce group on how the fair was this year. It was wonderful to hear the stories, both from staff and residents. One resident told a great story of her memories of the fair yearly with her youth group and they would wake up at 4 to get to the fair by 5:30 and sell food all day. After lunch and a rest break our plans of going outside were detoured by the rain... so we had our popcorn party inside. Jim Roth was here today to share an amazing live concert with us- we all had a great time taping our toes and singing along to our favorite tunes. It was a great day.
Happy Monday! Our day began by singing a few hymns together including our favorites "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace." Then we had to get a little exercise in with stretches and moving with the ribbons. We ended by talking about the fair and did trivia. We also watched YouTube videos of new foods that are at the MN State Fair and found out what else is new there. Everyone enjoyed sharing what they all like to eat there. In the afternoon, we all had a good time playing many games of bingo! Before dinner, we sang a few carousel themed songs at the fair like "Alexander's Ragtime Band" and "Beer Barrel Polka." It was fun dancing to some songs as well. What a great day!
What a fun morning we had! We started by exercising with the parachute to 50's music. Then we all had a good laugh with funny puns and camping stories. It was so wonderful to start the day with moving around and laughter! Bingo was in the afternoon. We had a good time playing several games together! Our day ended by going outside for fresh air and sunshine! We reminisced about summertime and sang a few songs together. That was such an enjoyable time!
Hello and happy Friday! It was a fantastic morning with a visit from volunteer, Ellie, and her dog Scout! There were many "ahhh's" and "he's so cute" and "look at that face" comments. Residents enjoyed watching him do tricks and having one on one time with him! We also had some classic musical scenes playing. Before lunch, we watched a few YouTube videos of funny and adorable dogs. After a delicious lunch and rest break, we had a great time outside together singing, enjoyed learning about what the "special days" are this week, and poetry and trivia. There was lots of fun and laughter this afternoon. It was so wonderful!
Happy Thursday! We started the morning by stretching and dancing with the ribbons with big band music. It felt good to get moving around! Then we all went outside on the patio and enjoyed the fresh air and sang lots of old-time songs together. After lunch, we all went out in the garden again to rest. Our ice cream social was next...everyone enjoyed their ice cream with a chocolate cookie! We also had a visit from a boy scout volunteer that read a story to us. It was a very nice time with Music Safari. Residents had a sing along while Jennifer played guitar. They enjoyed singing songs like, "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" and "K-K-K-Katy." She also played relaxing and beautiful piano pieces on the piano. What a great day!
Hello and happy Wednesday! Our day began with Ecumenical Worship services. Our guest pastor was Michael Baker from Hosanna Student Ministries Services. His message was beautiful, reading from scripture, Matthew 8:1-4, when Jesus cured the man of leprosy. We sang the hymns, "God Will Take Care of You" and "I Need Thee Every Hour". It was a lovely service. Next, our Catholic residents gathered in the Fountains Chapel for Rosary. Just before lunch we all gathered for the weather report- we all cheered to hear the next few days will be "picture postcard weather" days! We also spent sometime talking about the Minnesota State Fair that opens tomorrow! A resident shared a story of a time she went to the fair with her family when she was young and she loved seeing all of the different types of chickens. She loved them so much we wanted her dad to get rid of the cows and only raise chickens! Lunch today was tuna salad with fresh berries and a rice crispy bar for dessert. After lunch and our rest break we had a popcorn party outside. Later for Musical Moments we all enjoyed music from the Big Band era! It was a wonderful day.
Happy Tuesday! Jokes and riddles started off our day. Some gave us a good laugh and some not so much! Then we did our finish the songs game and after, stretched and flexed our bodies. With all the rain this morning, we sang "Raindrops Keep Falling My Head" together. It was a lovely afternoon spent outside in the garden. We had a tasty cookie treat and refreshment and visited. We also had a nice visit from a young volunteer and boy scout. Residents enjoyed listening to him read a story to them. When everyone was back inside, we stayed busy with words games, finish the sayings and trivia. The day ended with the Carol Burnett Show. What a wonderful day!
