Happy Friday! Our day began with exercise with stretches and trivia. We learned some fun things about the week like it being Michigan day the 26th, wintertime memories day on the 27th, and Chinese New Year began on the 28th. We watched videos of sites to see in Michigan and a traditional Chinese dance. We also reminisced about winter activities. The best part of the day was the birthday party with Woody! Everyone had a great time listening to him play a variety of music on the piano, guitar, and trumpet like Johnny Cash and other classic songs. The cake was definitely enjoyed too!
Happy Thursday! We started the day with the weather report. Then we all stretched out our bodies before taking out the parachute which was a great time had by all! Next, we did a few what's next games of finish the fairy tales, movie titles and lines, and also household activities. Lastly, we watched a video of a symphony concert with a little boy playing the piano. He was amazing! After lunch and a little rest, a few residents got together to enjoy cookies and coffee and chat while others enjoyed watching German folk dances and cookies. Music Safari ended the day. Everyone had a wonderful time playing instruments (shakers to "I'm All Shook Up" and the xylophone). They also used pinwheels to the song "Here Comes the Sun" and tossed a ball through a hoop. Music rapped up with a sing along. It was such a good time!
Happy Tuesday! We had a wonderfully musical Stretch and Flex first thing after breakfast! We sang along to Beatles tunes as we did our arm stretches and leg lifts- it was great fun! Next, music trivia was a big hit and everyone finished the lyrics to songs both old and even some newer ones, like, "It's fun to stay at the YMC...A!". We also covered the local happy news, weather and even read the Miss Manners column. It was a hoot to ask "What would you do?" in the different cases given Miss Manners. Lunch today was Chicken Parmesan with fettuccine noodles, Italian veggies and garlic toast. Needless to say it was a big hit! After lunch and a bit of a rest break we gathered to make Valentines wreaths- the lovely colors and sparkly hearts really gave smiles to all of your faces as we reminisced about fun valentines we would make special friends. Jim Roth gave us a great concert to round out our afternoon... it was a great day!
Happy Monday! It was a wonderful start to the day with our first music class with MacPhail! Iris led a class with the theme of Hawaii! We listened to a peaceful ocean waves song while we hung unto a long colorful rope and moved our arms up and down. She taught everyone the hula dance, a few Hawaiian words, and a song. Residents played Hawaiian instruments and drums and also listened to Iris play a couple as well like the ukulele. Everyone had such a great time! We had a big group play bingo in the afternoon which was fun! Then we enjoyed an afternoon snack while we listened to a variety of songs like "Sentimental Journey." It was a very nice day!
It was a wonderful weekend! Our mornings were busy with exercises and signing lots of songs! We stretched and flexed our bodies before taking out the ribbons on Saturday and the balloon to toss on Sunday. Sunday morning, we enjoyed singing many hymns together including, "Breathe on Me Breath of God," "Amazing Grace," "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms," among others. We also played a game of what's next. We had a good time watching a couple scenes from The Carol Burnett Show and I Love Lucy too. It was a great time playing bingo on Saturday afternoon and watching some dancing. On Sunday afternoon, we had a young piano player come to play for us! He was amazing and the residents had such a good time listening to him play! We had a sing along/finish the lyrics of old-time songs to top the day off.
Happy Friday! We started our day off with exercises. After stretching, we took the parachute and beach ball out while we listened to polka music. What fun that was and good exercise! A game of what the worker says was next and then finish the song titles. We reminisced about jobs everyone had and also sang a couple songs, "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah" and "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning." We ended the morning with a skit from The Carol Burnett Show. That made us all laugh! This afternoon, a group had a good time playing several games of bingo and then enjoying a sweet treat. We ended the day by singing a variety of songs with Susie Q on YouTube including old-time songs and hymns. It was a great day!
Happy Thursday! The day began with music and movement. We had a good time warming up with stretches and then tossing the beach ball to one another to upbeat 50's music. Then we exercised our minds with word games of finish the sayings, kitchen activity, and poems. We ended the morning with a few cute YouTube videos of babies. It was a nice afternoon singing a few songs together like "How Much Is That Doggy In the Window" and "You Are My Sunshine." We also enjoyed watching a dance competition before Music Safari. Everyone had a fantastic time playing instruments including bells and tambourines, and moving around to music. Residents also loved playing the rain drum while listening to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." It was a wonderful day!
Happy Wednesday! Today was a wonderful day- a touch warmer than usual this time of year, so I'm guessing everyone feels spring in the air a few months early! Our day began with a lovely Ecumenical Worship Service in the Hosanna Chapel with Pastor George officiating. We sang hymns, "O Jesus, I have promised" and "Oh, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing". We didn't quite have a 1,000 tongues- but we all sang anyhow. Rosary was held in the Fountains chapel for those who participated. Lunch was a grilled Rachel sandwich with pasta salad and fresh fruit. After lunch we all had the best time working on word find puzzles together, chatting and having coffee or lemonade. We gathered in the family room for a sing a long- "Sugar in the morning" was just one that we sang. After singing some of us listened to Elvis music and even danced a bit. It was a great day.
Happy Tuesday! It was nice morning. We started with the weather report and weekly news. Then we exercised our bodies and minds with the what's next game of finish the sayings and rhymes and then did a few stretches to get moving a little bit. We even had a blast dancing the chicken dance and later watching polka and swing dancing videos and moving along with that. It was a good time had by all! This afternoon, we enjoyed winter crafts...painting wooden snowmen and creating a paper winter scene. After that, we had a sing along of many old-time songs like "Meet Me in St. Louis," "Shine on Harvest Moon," and "Hail, Hail, the Gang's All Here." It was a great day!
Happy Monday! We began our day by singing a few hymns including "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art." Next, we enjoyed a few stories of children's prayers which were actually funny. One of them that residents laughed at was from a four year-old..."And forgive us our trash baskets as we forgive those who put trash in our baskets." Stretches and flexes were next. It felt good to get our bodies moving. We ended the morning with a few videos of babies laughing which gave us all big smiles. That's the best! This afternoon, we played a finish the sayings and finish the lyrics game. We sang different songs like "Daisy Bell" and "Jesus Loves Me." Residents watched a couple dances on YouTube. One resident showed us her dance moves as well! We also enjoyed a few stories from the Reminisce magazine including embarrassing moments and also wedding stories. It was a great day!
