The Primrose Preschoolers came to visit this morning!  A few residents watched and helped them work with a craft and coloring a page.  There was constant movement and many smiles in the room!  One resident thought it was so cute and funny when a little girl came up to her and said she liked fish and asked if the resident liked fish…you never know what’s going to come out of their mouths!  They had a wonderful time!  The kids tired us out!  When we were back, we used the ribbons for a short exercise time.  We always like using those!  Lastly, we watched funny YouTube videos of polar bears.
This afternoon, we played bingo.  We had a couple of young helpers today that made it extra fun!  Then we did an activity, can you picture this, where we came up with a story based off a picture.  They did a nice job with it!  Lastly, we played the memory magic game. Everyone does so well with this game!  It was a great day!

Happy Monday!  Devotions with Chaplain Mari was this morning.  She had a wonderful message for us and they sang hymns including, “In the Garden,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” and “Jesus Loves Me.”  It was a lovely time!  After that we exercised by doing stretches and played the balloon volleyball game.  It was a ton of fun!  Before lunch, we watched YouTube videos of babies reacting to noices and making funny facial expressions. It was so cute!
This afternoon, we worked on a St. Patrick’s Day garland craft and decoration.  A picture of it will be posted tomorrow.  Diane and Tolstoy visited us today!  We watched Tolstoy do all his agility tricks including weaving, going through the tunnel and jumping over it!  Tolstoy played his piano, a few notes even sounded like Chopsticks!  The residents gave him a lot of treats so he was one happy dog!  Everyone was so happy spending time with him and had a great time!  It was a great day!

Happy Friday!  The morning began with The Daily Chronicle.  It is so interesting to learn new things!  Did you know that Wayne Allwine (the voice of Mickey Mouse) and Russi Taylor (the voice of Minnie Mouse) were married in real life?  We listened to “9 to 5” song since Dolly Parton reached the top spot on the pop music charts on Feb. 21, 1981.  We also listened to George Handel’s “Messiah” since it was his birthday yesterday.  It would have been Marjorie Main’s birthday today!  After reading about her, we watched a short TCM tribute to her and the Ma and Pa Kettle Vacation trailer.  They all enjoyed the humor of the day lines like this one, “To attract men, I wear a perfume called New Car Interior.”  Next we exercised by starting with stretches and then used the beach ball for some fun exercise. It was a good time!  Lastly, we watched YouTube videos of funny talking parrots!
It was the February birthday party!  We had a new performer here, a nice singer and flute player!  The cake was delicious of course!  When we were back from the party, the residents watched the show, Growing up Wild.  It was a great Friday!

Our morning began with some sweet and humorous stories lines about kids and religion. Everyone enjoyed listening to all of them.  Here’s one, “A little girl became restless as the preacher’s sermon dragged on and on.  Finally, she leaned over to her mother and whispered, “Mommy, if we give him the money now, will he let us go?”  Here’s another, A boy was watching his father, a pastor, write a sermon.  “How do you know what to say?”  he asked.  “Why, God tells me.”  “Oh, then why do you keep crossing things out?”  We ended our morning funnies with animal riddles.  They were cute and it gave us a little laugh!  Next, we stretched our bodies for some morning exercise.  We also used the category game ball.
Many residents played bingo this afternoon.  One resident won five times and another won three!  What fun that was!  Lastly, was our random trivia activity.  We went through it very fast again because they’re so good at it!  It was a nice day!

Happy Wednesday! Our day began as it usually does on Wednesday with church services. Our pastor, George, provided a beautiful service and we left feeling inspired and grateful! Next, some residents attended Catholic Rosary and Communion in the chapel. We had a little time before lunch, so we brought in the boom box and played some favorite tunes of the 50’s. We even had a resident show us her version of the “Mashed potato”! Everyone was clapping and singing along- what fun! After lunch we gathered for some arts and crafts- creating some St.Patrick’s day decorations. Then it was time for our favorite game of BINGO- many winners and many smiling faces! Next we enjoyed some Shirley Temple short takes from her movies and we all sang along to the “Good Ship Lollypop”! Enjoy the photos!

Happy Tuesday. Our day began with some “Mind Joggers”-  finish the sentence, song or poem. The residents really enjoyed them and a few times we even sang sings or recited the poem if we knew the whole thing. For example, when I asked, “Who wanted to go on the bicycle built for two?”. The residents answered by singing the entire song! Daisy! Next we stretched and flexed to our favorite Big Band music. After lunch we all celebrated the incredibly warm weather we are having by opening up the door to the garden and taking a walk or sit outside. How awesome to sit outside with the warm sun on your face in February! Jim Roth was our afternoon music entertainment and he really knows how to get all of us clapping our hands and tapping our toes. What a beautiful day!

Happy Presidents’ Day!  We had a few Presidents’ Day activities this morning, including fun trivia, quotes, and videos.  They thought it was interesting learning all the different things about many presidents’.  The residents guessed correctly what president said what quote.  Next, we stretched along to patiotric music and then tossed/kicked the ball while naming all the presidents’.  They did fantastic!  We also watched YouTube videos of kids naming and imitating some presidents and presidential bloopers.  It was fun to hear some presidents, like Ronald Reagan, cracking jokes and being witty!
We baked an angel food cake this afternoon.  While the cake was baking, we played a presidents’ matching game and had time for a game of presidential bingo!  After we ate the good cake, I read to them about the time Truman defended his daughter from the harsh critic that wrote about his daughter’s singing performance.  He sure did not mince words, it was funny!

Happy Saturday!  Since today is First Ladies day, we learned fun trivia about several first ladies.  It was very interesting!  The residents even participated in enthusiastically saying things like, “girl power!”  It was great!  I read them a few quotes from some of the first ladies.  They especially liked a couple from Eleanor Roosevelt, “A woman is like a tea bag – you can’t tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water” and “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”  We also watched a short YouTube video-Top Ten Influential First Ladies of the United States.  We played bingo this afternoon.  It was a great time!  Before dinner, the residents watched the movie, My Fair Lady.  It was a nice Saturday!

Happy Friday!  We began the morning with The Daily Chronicle.  We learned some different historical things and animal trivia.  They especially liked the humor of the day quote, “Before I got married I had six theories about bringing up children; now I have six children and no theories.”  They really got a kick out of that one!  It would have been Harvey Korman’s birthday on Wednesday so we learned about him and watched scenes from The Carol Burnett Show.  That show was hilarious!  We exercised next with the parachute.  It’s always so much fun and also a good work out!  After that, we watched “Went with the Wind” from The Carol Burnett show.  That has to be one of the best skits!
A couple of residents went out to lunch at Morgan’s Farm to Table.  It was very good and was so nice to get out on this gorgeous day!  When we were back, we worked on a category word game.  They did a super job with it!  James played the piano for us this afternoon too. It was wonderful!

The Primrose School Kindergarten kids came this morning to visit.  The residents helped them make a melting snowman paper craft.  All the snowmen were all so cute when they were done! Everyone was so happy to spend time with them!  One resident joyfully said two times how much fun she was having, it was wonderful!  There were many bright, smiling faces this morning!  After the kids left, we exercised by doing stretches and tossing the beach ball.  Lastly, we watched YouTube videos of penguins bloopers.  One resident said she liked watching penguins!  They are the cutest!
This afternoon, several residents painted roses and another pretty outline.  It was a good time!  We also enjoyed music with Jennifer.  She played a song where they went along with the beat of the music using sticks and shakers and they had to stop playing at certain points in the song.  She also played a song that had different noises for a snake and a frog and they waved their scarves different ways depending on what sound came on.  Lastly, Jennifer played different ragtime and movie songs.  They guessed many of the tunes correctly!  We surely do have wonderul artists/musical people here!
