We all were happy to say goodbye to the last day of April today... showers and all! Our rainy day started with the weather report and some fun trivia about water and trees. Stretch and Flex was a great time as we did our exercises to our favorite polkas! The Beer Barrel and Pennsylvania Polka! Next, for our Pick Me Up, we all belly laughed to the latest trend of "cats afraid of cucumbers". Who would guess that cats would jump feet in the air just from seeing a cucumber- the residents really thought it was funny. After our lunch of chicken pot pie and spinach salad we continued our fun with a coffee social. Lucky for us, we had chocolate donut holes for our sweet with our coffee. Finally we chased our rainy day blues away with some more happy polka music. It was a great day!
Happy Sunday from the Willows! Our day started with Michelle at the Piano performing for us. We all enjoy the beautiful music and through the years we all have witnessed her growing into a fabulous musician. We all look forward to hearing her play each Sunday! Next, we worked on our green house garden, planting some Basil, Cilantro, Cucumber, Pepper, Beans and Pea seeds. We have just a few weeks to go before we can start planting them outside- it was nice to see everyone's face light up with talk of sunshine! It wont be long now! Just before lunch we read the weather report and saw the St Paul Saints baseball club is having a "name that pig" contest! It was fun to hear the fun names we all came up with, "Pinky Pie, Hammy, Pork Chop, Wiggles". I dont know if we'll win, but just hearing the excitement over a prize- getting your photo with the pig- was a hoot. After lunch we had a Popcorn Party, Molly the dog came for a visit and we all enjoyed some arm chair travel to our countries capital, Washington DC.
It was a wonderful Saturday here at the Willows! Our day started with a surprize... a rain/ snow mix that we could see out of the window. GLadly, not much snow fell- but it was the topic of conversation this morning! We went on with our morning activities despite the unwelcomed sight; Weekend Funnies, Stretch and Flex and we even got to watch an interesting show on Doris Day through the years! We all just had to sing Que Sera Sera afterwards! After lunch we enjoyed a fabulous concert with volunteer Sam at the piano. This is the first time I've seen him play and let me tell you this 16 year old young man can play Rachmaninoff and bring you to tears. Beautiful! After our concert we enjoyed a few games of Bingo and just had to bring the music back for a sing a long afterwards. It was a great day!
The day started out with daily chronicles and some stretch and flex. Then we mentioned some arbor day quotes and had trivia to go along with it. After lunch, we had our March birthday party out in the bistro where a pianist came and played some songs such as "The Entertainer", "Flight of the Bumble Boogie (Flight of the Bumblebees with a boogie twist)", and "Five foot two, eyes of blue". Everyone danced and sang along. Then after that, we enjoyed some cake and chit chatted about spring. At 2:45, we had another pianist by the name of James come in and play some classic songs such as "Over the Rainbow", "The Turkish March", and "Blessed Assurance". We ended the day with some Susie Q on youtube with songs like "I'm looking over a 4-leaf clover", and "My Wild Irish Rose". It was a musically filled afternoon and everyone had a great time!
Today we started with fun trivia, poems and quotes about Arbor Day and all about trees. We learned about the oldest living thing on earth, the Methuselah Tree and about the largest tree (by volume) in the world, The General Sherman Tree. It was quite fascinating. Next we exercised our bodies with some stretches. The morning ended with travel videos to Redwood National Park, Yosemite National Park, and San Diego. This afternoon, we had our first ice cream social. It was a fantastic time together visiting and enjoying our tasty ice cream! We had chocolate and raspberry toppings and one resident had the best answer to what he wanted on his ice cream, "one of each!" After the social, was Music Safari. Everyone had a wonderful time playing instruments and listening to music! The residents sure do have great rhythm skills with their instrument playing!
It was a beautiful and busy day here at The Willows! Our day began with a beautiful worship service. Our Hosanna Preschool friends opened with some beautiful songs to start the service. Our own Chaplin Mari shared a beautiful message with us about the empty cross, clothes and tomb. Next, our Catholic residents gathered for Rosary. After lunch our Primrose Kindergarten friends joined us for crafts and fellowship. We made butterflies out of pipecleaners, clothespins and glitter- we all had a great time. Once again it was a beautiful day so we had to take advantage of our beautiful garden- we basked in the sun and enjoyed the little breeze with some lovely music.
Happy Tuesday! It was a beautiful sunny day today in Lakeville! Our day began with the weather, good news, funnies and some fruity trivia! Next, our stretch and flex was welcome break from all that brain exercise in trivia- we needed to work out our bodies next! After or exercise we traveled to the island of Maui for our Arm Chair Travel group. We all enjoyed seeing the beautiful palm trees and practicing the hula dance like the beautiful dancers. For lunch the residents enjoyed a BLT with homemade potato salad and fresh pineapple. After lunch we opened the doors to check out spring in the fresh air- it's still a bit nippy- but the sunshine felt wonderful and many folks did venture outside for a bit. Jim Roth, the polka king of the Twin Cities played for us this afternoon. It was a treat! What a great day!
Happy Monday! It was a great morning that began with a sing along! We sang songs like "How Much is That Doggy in the Window," "That's Amore," "Get Happy," and "Swinging on a Star." After that, we enjoyed some funny one-liners and then had a blast exercising with the ribbons to upbeat 50s music! Before lunch we watched a couple animal videos...a talking parrot and one of a mama bear and her adorable four cubs walking across a road in TN. There were many bingo players this afternoon and it was a good time had by all! We ended the day with music and sang more of our favorite old-time songs.
Happy Saturday! It was a busy morning...sang some of our favorite hymns like "Amazing Grace," enjoyed humorous Easter stories and jokes and learned several fun facts about Easter. Did you know that it used to take more than a day to make a Peep and Americans eat more than 600 million Peeps during Easter!? Residents thought that this was a funny fact...most Americans bite off the ears of a chocolate bunny first! Before lunch we did some of our stretches and flexes. It was a good time playing bingo this afternoon. Then we all went out on the patio and enjoyed that beautiful sunshine and sang old-time songs, more hymns and Easter songs like "Easter Parade." It was a wonderful day! Happy Easter!
What a wonderful day! We spent time doing lots of fun trivia this morning. Our morning exercise was so much fun since we danced in our chairs to songs like "The Twist." Watercolor painting filled our time after lunch. We ended the day by going outside on the patio for fresh air! It was so nice to get the sunshine we all needed after that long winter. We all enjoyed reminiscing and singing songs together! We're all looking forward to gardening and seeing our beautiful flowers once again!
